The human factor is decisive in more than 90 percent of all traffic accidents. Tired or distracted drivers represent a major part of the problem. The most advanced safety technology cannot fully compensate for human errors and therefore it can also work to improve drivers’ awareness, attitudes and behavior.
The Volvo Group cooperates with different stakeholders on safety awareness issues like alertness, use of alcohol, speed and the use of seat belts.
One example is driver training. In India at least two customer drivers are trained for every Volvo truck sold. Drivers need to pass a test to qualify for the training program. More than 23,000 Indian drivers have been trained to date. Training segments include driver responsibility, fuel efficient driving and traffic safety.
